The Czech football team has been seeded for the play-offs for the final four places in the 2012 European Championship being hosted by Poland and Ukraine.

The Czechs slipped into the last of the seeded places, based on their national team UEFA rankings, along with Croatia, Portugal and the Republic of Ireland, and will face one of the unseeded four: Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro or Estonia.

The draw for the play-offs to be played over two legs on November 11 and 12 and on November 15 will be made on Thursday. The four winners of the play-off ties will go on to take their places in next year’s finals.

The Czech Republic booked its place in the play-offs with a convincing 4:1 away win against Lithuania, which was already out of the running for a group qualification place and fielded a largely experimental team on Tuesday night.

The Czechs could have been beaten for second place in the group by Scotland, but the Scots went down 1:3 against world and European champions Spain.

The Scottish manager, and some Czech papers on Wednesday morning, pointed out that the Czech team would not have been in the running for a play-off place at all if they had not been given a highly dubious penalty in an eventual 2:2 draw against Scotland last month.
