Contemporary Russian Writer in Prague
... for example Igor Pomerantsev, born January 11, 1948 in Saratov in the USSR) is a Russian writer. He studied English philology and pedagogy at the University of Czernowitz. His first poetry publications appeared in 1972 in the Moscow magazine "Smena". He had contact with the Ukrainian civil rights movement. 1976 Pomerantsev was arrested by the KGB. He was alleged to have distributed political literature and have to listen to enemy radio stations and to maintain contacts with foreigners. 1977, he was encouraged to emigrate. In 1978 he emigrated together to Germany. In 1979 he moved to London where he worked for the BBC. In 1987 he moved to Munich, to work till now as radio broadcaster) for Radio Free Europe (Russia Culture) / Radio Liberty(RFE / RL). Since 1991 he lives in Prague.
