Prague Wine Week is in its third year and is developing on its earlier success with new highlights. Restaurants, wine bars and wine shops throughout Prague will be offering special deals and tastings from Jan 24-30, and this year there will be some very special offerings through the new “Wine & Food tandems.”

The week of wine uncorks in the Czech capital with a gala tasting on Jan. 24 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, and for Kč 1,000 visitors can choose from more than 300 different wines that were awarded in the largest Czech wine competition, the Prague Wine Trophy. A total of 1,198 wines entered the competition this year, two thirds of which were from abroad.

Czech and Moravian vintners will personally introduce their winning selections at the gala tasting, and a selection of winning importers will also be presenting their wares, including “best importer” Neubauer & Son. An accompanying seminar on Austrian wines, led by director of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board, Willi Klinger, will introduce visiting connoisseurs to the top 12 Austrian wines.

The new feature “Wine & Food tandems” links top Prague restaurants with award-winning wineries to serve up special menus paired with the carefully selected glasses of fine wine. For Kč 450, patrons can enjoy a three-course meal with three wine selections accompaning each course. A tasting of three to five wines with lighter fare costs Kč 250, and a tasting of five wines (with no meal) goes for Kč 150.

Distinctive venues such as Restaurant Fluidum, Vinograf Bar — or the newcomer Red PIF, which features wines from famed US film director Francis Ford Coppola’s Californian vineyards — appear on the selection of locations, offering up these special menus throughout the week.

Prague Wine Week and the competition Prague Wine Trophy are organized by the magazine Víno Revue (Wine Review).
