Skanska to extend Prague metro

Sweden’s Skanska has been awarded a Kč 3.7 billion construction contract in connection with the extension of the Prague subway

Skanska has been awarded a construction contract in connection to the extension of the Prague subway amounting to Kč 3.7 billion (SEK 1.3 billion). The order will be included in the order bookings for the second quarter 2011. The customer is the Department of Public Transportation in the City of Prague, the Swedish company said in a press release.

Subway line A in Prague will be extended with four more stations. Skanska’s contract is the technical part of the construction and includes building the energy installations and equipping the subway system with air-conditioning, low voltage and communication system. “The extension of subway line A is about 6 kilometers. Skanska will start the work immediately and the work will be completed by autumn 2014,” the company said. 

Skanska Czech Republic, which is the country’s largest construction company, had sales in 2010 of about SEK 1 billion. The company has 5,600 employees in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Skanska is also active in the Czech Republic in the development of office buildings through Skanska Commercial Development Europe.
