Poland to sell 100MW plant to Czech Energo-Pro

  12:23

Energo-Pro, an independent CEE power producer specialized in hydro power, had been in exclusive talks with Poland since Sept. 2011

Poland’s Treasury Ministry announced on Tuesday it has agreed to sell the nearly 100 megawatt Niedzica hydropower plant to the Czech utility Energo-Pro, with the transaction expected to be finalized in the first half of 2013.

The ministry said on its website that the preliminary agreement was reached on May 30 with Energo-Pro and its subsidiary Cambert Investments Ltd. The price was not revealed.

Energo-Pro, an independent power producer engaged in the generation, delivery and trading of electricity from renewable energy sources, specializes in the hydro power sector.

The Czech company builds, owns and operates hydro power plants and electricity infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe (the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia and Armenia).

According to Reuters, exclusive talks between Poland and Energo-Pro were postponed several times since September 2011 due to legal issues with land surrounding the plant. Polish state-owned utilities Tauron, Enea, Energa and copper miner KGHM’s asset management unit were among the firms that had earlier expressed interest in it, the news agency said.
