Ječmínek files new Sazka bankruptcy proposal

  16:12

Autoklub ČR head Roman Ječmínek has filed his own claim to declare Sazka bankrupt, and seeks court approval for its restructuring

Sazka vice chairman Roman Ječmínek’s has submitted his own proposal to declare the lottery firm bankrupt, pointing to Sazka’s mounting debts and inability to meet its obligations.

Sazka acknowledged last week that it had insufficient funds to pay its January jackpot of Kč 103.4 million. Ječmínek says the firm also missed a March 10 deadline to payback claims by 26 creditors amounting to more than Kč 1.37 billion. Furthermore, thanks to its rising debt, the three mobile operators stopped topping up pre-paid cards at Sazka terminals on Friday; some corner shops and tobacconists have disconnected them entirely.

Ječmínek’s is the third proposal submitted to the bankruptcy court regarding Sazka — creditor Radovan Vítek filed the first (on Jan. 17) and Karel Komárek the second (on Feb. 15). Still, the claim may prove crucial for further development, as Ječmínek has at the same time requested that the Prague court allow for the lottery firm’s reorganization. That would require the creditors’ approval, and also (if carried out) their supervision.

The Municipal Court in Prague must now call on the other statutory representatives to comment on the proposal. At the same time, Komárek’s KKCG has also submitted a proposal to the court to as regards a bankruptcy administrator. The court last week cancelled a decision by insolvency trustee Josef Cupka.
