Czech energy concern ČEZ will be replaced in the Warsaw bourse’s WIG20 blue-chip index by Polish mining company JSW

Czech energy concern ČEZ will be replaced in the Warsaw Stock Exchange’s WIG20 blue-chip index by Polish mining company Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW), the bourse’s management board has announced. The change will be affective following the trading session on September 16.

The Polish daily Parkiet said the decision was not unexpected, with analysts having long indicated that JSW would replace either the Czech energy concern or construction group PBG. ČEZ, which is the largest company in the WIG20 in terms of capitalization, is also listed on the Prague Stock Exchange (BCPP).

Once JSW replaces ČEZ on the WIG20, it will account for 3.06 percent of the index. Analysts quoted by Parkiet said they were skeptical that JSW’s entering Warsaw’s blue-chip index would spark a great rush of investors.

The Warsaw bourse has also announced that apart from the WIG20, there will the quarterly adjustments concerning the mWIG40 and sWIG80 indices.
